When you are building a
street rod, hot rod, or any other vehicle that is a combination of parts
that have never been engineered to work together, you are sure to run into
problems with fit and clearance.
That’s exactly what
happened to me when I was getting ready to install the power steering pump
on the 350 small block in Diana’s ’39 Chevy. The brackets I planned to use
brought the pump down too low on the engine, and the power steering pump
pulley interfered with the lines running to the power rack.
I tried several
combinations of pumps and brackets from various model Chevy cars & trucks.
No Luck! I even tried a small remote reservoir pump a la Corvette with no
luck.
That’s when I logged
onto Alan Grove Components website. There it was! The exact bracket that I
needed! I called and spoke with Gregg, and he assured me that it would work.
He was right!
The package arrived
and I excitedly opened it to find the brackets, spacers, and high quality
hardware. Everything I needed to mount the pump was in the package.
It went together
easily, fit perfectly, and the belt alignment was great. Alan Grove
Components even supplied a list of pump types and pulleys that will work
with each application. They even included the belt dimensions!
I now have the
alignment I wanted. The pulley lined up perfectly with the outside groove on
the 3 groove crank pulley. Now I also have plenty of clearance for my
hydraulic lines. I hope you enjoy the pictures showing how easy it is to get
high quality brackets that are super easy to install.
Now I’ll take them
off and send them to the powder coater for a shiny black finish.
I’d like to express
special thanks to Gregg and the guys at Alan Grove. They can fill your
bracket needs whether it’s a small block or a big block, regardless of short
or long water pumps. Be sure to check out their website. They even have
engineering drawings with dimensions so you can measure for fit.
Happy Motoring!
